The Hebrews, Persians, Macedonians, Maccabees, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Seljuks, Franks, Ayyubids, Mamluks, Ottomans, British, and Israelis have all claimed dominion over Jerusalem at various points in its long and storied history.
