Historical Context

Licinius II was the young son of Licinius I and was named Caesar in AD 317 as part of a temporary settlement with Constantine I. His coinage proclaimed dynastic continuity in the eastern imperial household.

After Constantine defeated Licinius I in AD 324, the younger Licinius lost his position and was later executed. His coins preserve evidence of the fragile alliance between the two imperial families.
