Historical Context

Delmatius was a nephew of Constantine the Great and was elevated to the rank of Caesar in AD 335. He received authority in parts of the Balkan and eastern Mediterranean regions as Constantine arranged a dynastic succession.

After Constantine died in AD 337, Delmatius was killed during a purge of imperial relatives. His brief tenure makes his coinage a compact record of the last years of Constantine’s family settlement.
